Hill Country Heroes exists to honor, support, and stand beside Veterans, First Responders, and Gold Star Families through meaningful outdoor experiences that bring connection, purpose, healing, and hope.
Through the outdoors surrounded by people who appreciate their sacrifice.

The term Gold Star family is a modern reference that comes from the Service Flag. These flags/banners were first flown by families during World War I. The flag included a blue star for every immediate family member serving in the armed forces of the United States, during any period of war or hostilities in which the armed forces of the United States were engaged. If that loved one died, the blue star was replaced by a gold star. This allowed members of the community to know the price that the family had paid in the cause of freedom.

Every year, Hill Country Heroes proudly hosts one Gold Star child on an all‑expenses‑paid white‑tail deer hunting trip. This experience is designed to honor their family’s sacrifice while giving them a chance to reconnect with the outdoors, build confidence, and create lasting memories.
During the trip, we focus on mentorship, wildlife education, safe and ethical hunting practices, and—most importantly—giving each child a weekend filled with support, adventure, and healing. Our goal is to provide a meaningful experience that reminds these young heroes that they are never forgotten.

Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and fund our mission.
